Three-part session designed to improve players’ ability to make supporting runs and then score.
This three-part session develops players’ attacking and scoring ability. It works on decision-making on the ball, supporting runs, using a variety of finishing in and around the goal, and individual and team combinations to score.
For this practice, you can opt to use the penalty area doubled, or a playing area that best suits the age and ability of your players. Divide your group into two teams.
Play begins with a ball played into attackers, who play 3v2 to goal. If the attacking team scores, the player who scores leaves the field. The defending team then attacks with an additional player and play goes 3v2 the opposite way.
Offsides are in play to help players with the timing of their runs.
To challenge players in the attacking phase, play with tempo and finish the attack with a goal. If the ball is defended for more than five seconds (or a similar time), the defending team get to add one player into the game.
