Three-part session to boost confidence and aid players’ decision-making in 1v1s and 2v2s.
The small-sided game allows players to put what they have learnt into a game-realistic scenario.
Mark out an area relative to the age and ability of your players. Set up two teams of 7v7 (or whatever numbers dictate).
Play a normal small-sided game as usual but adopt the following scoring system: Player beats a defender 1v1: 1 point; Shot on target: 1 point; Goal: 2 points.
The first team to a set number of points wins.
• The scoring system should bring out attacking and defending battles, so it’s a great time to build into their confidence to want to create those battles.
• Find moments players can create space to take players on 1v1 and give them the courage to do it.
1. Set up with two small-sided teams
2. Play a normal small-sided game but players are rewarded for creating and taking advantage of 1v1 situations
3. Players score a point for beating a defender 1v1 and for getting a shot on target, and two points for scoring
