This session works on finding space in the middle and switching the flow of play quickly. How fast can the players check into space, find open space for another player to run into, and combine with one another?
Mark out an area relative to the age and ability of your players. Divide players into three teams and mark out a middle zone within the playing area.
Two teams play together as the in-possession team, with the third acting as defenders. The objective is for the attacking teams to pass the ball into the middle zone and connect a pass out of it to score.
To increase the difficulty and add variations, the team can also dribble into the box and then connect the pass out, or two players must combine in the middle zone before playing out to score..
Crisp, clean and quick touches are important. Ensure players are receiving on their back foot, driving into space and moving off the ball.
The timing of movement to receive in the central square is also key.
1. Divide players into three equal teams. Two teams (Reds and Blues) play together as attackers, one team (Yellows) are defenders
2. To score, attackers aim to play through the central square and out again
3. Players cannot wait to receive the ball in the central square - timing of movement is key
