Three-part session intended to work on your goalkeepers’ ability to manage aerial space, specifically their positioning for crosses.
This session develops goalkeepers’ ability to manage aerial space, specifically working on their positioning for crosses from the half-space and within the penalty box.
This practice uses a full-size goal and three or four players - if your players are all goalkeepers, they can rotate positions. Place two mannequins (or poles) on the edge of the six-yard box to act as obstacles for the goalkeeper.
The working goalkeeper will be in position for a half-space cross (1) and to try come and claim the cross cleanly.
The goalkeeper will then distribute the ball (2) to another player towards the edge of the penalty box and re-position themselves.
The receiving player will then play a pass to another player, or coach, around the penalty spot (3), who will then shoot on goal.
