A session on passing and receiving skills to keep your players firmly on the ball. Use this session as a standalone activity, or combine it with two progressions to create a full session.
A fun warm-up to get players moving while encouraging awareness and communication. Involving a ball from the beginning also encourages as much ball contact as possible early in the session.
Set up an area suitable for the number, age and ability of your players. Bibs and/or cones can be utilised. Make balls available for progression.
Players have a bib or cone in hand. Utilise different colours, such as four blue bibs, four red, four orange and four sky blue, as shown in the diagram. Players move around exchanging bibs. On the coach’s shout of ‘go!’, players must quickly organise into their teams, by colour of bib.
The first organised team wins and each player within that group gets an individual point.
Keep score and find out who the quickest and/or most efficient communicator of the session is.
Introduce a ball - all players dribble around the area.
Set a designated area for groups to gather, further challenging quick communication, scanning and awareness.
1. Three or four teams of three to four players, each player holding a bib
2. Players move around the area, exchanging bibs with other players
3. On the coach’s call, players must organise themselves into their respective teams as fast as possible
