Three-part session to develop players’ understanding of transitioning quickly when the ball is won.
This practice encourages the defending team to work together to win the ball back.
Set up two grids side by side, relative to the age, ability and number of your players, with opposing players in separate box.
One team must try to keep possession - decide how many passes equals a point. The opposition sends four players into the other half to win the ball back. If they are successful, they look to play it back to their team-mates in their own grid and return to their box to keep possession.
The team that lost the ball sends in four players to try and win the ball back.
1. Split players into two equal teams, one team starting in each half
2. One team starts with the ball and aims to make a set number of passes to score a point
3. Their opponents send four players in to try to win the ball back. If they do, they pass to their waiting team-mates and rejoin their half, and the game continues
