A session to develop players’ understanding and actions in transition moments. Use this session as a standalone activity, or combine it with two progressions to create a full session
Connecting the previous concepts into the full-sided game will show your players immediately how fast reactions and reading the game in transition moments will benefit their team.
Play a full-sided game, relative to the age and ability of your players. If possible, use full-size goals.
Play a normal full-sided game. Teams collect points as follows:
- Goal = 3 points
- If ball is won back immediately after a turnover = 2 points
- If ball is played backwards by opponent after a turnover = 1 point
Try to win the ball back immediately. If it is not possible to get pressure to the ball, find team shape.
Recover centrally towards goal, head on a swivel.
1. Set up with a normal full-sided game if possible
2. Teams can earn points for scoring a goal or by immediately regaining possession after it is lost
3. Teams can also earn a point by forcing opponents to play a backwards pass immediately after possession is lost, by getting pressure on the ball and closing passing lanes
